1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using Lumina (“the Service”), you agree to these Terms of Usage (“Terms”). If you do not agree, stop using the Service. These Terms cover everyone who touches the platform — visitors browsing scholarships, students with an account, and anyone acting on behalf of a school or organisation. If you use Lumina for an institution, you confirm you have the authority to bind that institution to these Terms. This is an agreement between you and the founding team that operates Lumina, which is not yet incorporated.
2. Eligibility
Lumina is built for students applying to universities and scholarship programmes. You must be at least 16 to hold an account. If you are below the age of majority where you live, a parent or legal guardian must read and accept these Terms with you. You are also responsible for following the rules of your own school, university, and any funder whose application you prepare through us.
3. Your Account
You need an account to build a profile, save scholarships, and use matching. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider, so your password is never stored by us.
Keeping the account yours
- Give accurate registration and profile information, and keep it current.
- Keep your sign-in details private — one account belongs to one person.
- Tell us at once if you believe someone else has reached your account.
Duplicate accounts created to work around plan limits, and accounts used to resell or share access, may be suspended or removed.
4. What Lumina Does — and Does Not — Promise
Lumina helps you find scholarship and university opportunities and organise your applications. We are not a funder, an admissions office, or an agent for either.
- We do not award money, and we cannot guarantee that you will be shortlisted, admitted, or funded.
- Eligibility rules, deadlines, and award amounts are set by the provider, not by us. Confirm them on the provider's own site before you apply.
- Listings can be incomplete, out of date, or withdrawn by the provider without notice.
- Results other students have had are not a promise of a similar outcome for you.
The final responsibility for what you submit, and for meeting a deadline, is yours.
5. Your Profile and Documents
You keep ownership of everything you upload — transcripts, essays, certificates, and the details in your profile. Uploading it gives us permission to store and process it for the narrow purpose of running the Service for you: matching you to opportunities, generating your documents, and showing you your own application history.
- Only upload material you have the right to share, and avoid including other people's personal information.
- You may review, correct, or delete your content from your profile at any time.
- We do not sell your documents, and we do not publish them.
6. AI Matching and Generated Content
Parts of Lumina — match scores, ranked recommendations, and drafting help — are produced by automated systems, including third-party AI models. By using them you accept that:
- Scores and suggestions are estimates. They are not a decision, an eligibility ruling, or professional advice.
- Generated text can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date, and must be checked before you rely on it.
- A draft the system writes for you is a starting point. Submitting it as your own unedited work may breach your institution's academic honesty rules — that is your responsibility, not ours.
- We may retain interaction data to measure and improve match quality.
7. Intellectual Property
The Lumina platform — its software, interface, design, written copy, illustrations, and the structure of our scholarship database — belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by copyright and related law. Using the Service does not transfer any of it to you.
Without our written permission, you may not:
- Copy, redistribute, or build derivative products from the platform or its content.
- Extract our listings in bulk, by scraping or any other automated means.
- Resell access, or share your account so that others can use it.
- Use our content or listings to train or fine-tune machine learning models.
8. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Misrepresent your grades, finances, nationality, or achievements in an application prepared through Lumina.
- Interfere with the Service's operation, probe its security, or attempt to reach data that is not yours.
- Upload malware, or anything unlawful, harassing, or deliberately misleading.
- Impersonate another student, a school, or a scholarship provider.
- Use the Service for any purpose that breaks the law where you live.
Breaking these rules can end your access immediately.
9. Plans and Payment
Lumina is free to use today. The plans shown on our pricing page describe what paid tiers will include; they are not yet purchasable, we have no payment processor connected, and no charge can be taken from you through the Service as it stands.
Before paid plans open we will publish updated Terms covering renewal, cancellation, refunds, and the processor handling the payment, and we will tell you before they take effect. Until then, nothing on this page commits you to a payment.
10. Third-Party Services and Links
Lumina links out to scholarship providers, universities, and other sites, and relies on third parties for sign-in, storage, payment, and AI. We do not control those services and do not endorse what they publish. Your use of them is governed by their own terms, at your own risk.
11. Privacy
We collect what we need to run the Service and improve how well it matches students to funding — your profile details, the documents you upload, and how you use the platform.
- We do not sell or rent your personal data.
- We share limited data with the providers who host, secure, and operate the platform on our behalf, and only for that purpose.
- We use encryption in transit and at rest, and internal access to student records is restricted.
- You can ask us to export or delete your data, or delete your account outright, by writing to us.
- You can ask us to stop sending you product or marketing email by writing to us.
The full detail — every category we hold, which third parties receive it, and the export and deletion controls in your settings — is set out in our Privacy Policy.
12. Availability and Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind. In particular, we do not guarantee that:
- Listings, deadlines, or award details are free of errors or omissions.
- The Service will be uninterrupted, or reachable at any particular moment.
- The platform is free of every vulnerability, though we monitor it and patch what we find.
Planned maintenance and unplanned outages both happen. Never leave a scholarship deadline to the last hour on the assumption that we will be online — keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose. You can reach us about an ongoing incident on our Discord server, where Discord’s own terms and our server rules apply.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Lumina and its team are not liable for:
- Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.
- A scholarship, place, or award you did not receive, or a deadline you missed.
- Loss of data, documents, or application progress.
- Anything done by a third-party site, provider, or service we link to.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
14. Suspension and Termination
You may close your account whenever you like. We may suspend or end access where these Terms are broken, or where an account is being used fraudulently. When an account closes, we delete or de-identify its personal data except where we are required to keep records by law.
15. Disputes
If something goes wrong, write to us first — most problems are settled that way. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, we do not require you to use any particular forum: Lumina is not yet incorporated, so we name no arbitration body, and the courts available to you where you live remain available to you.
16. Governing Law
Lumina is not yet incorporated, so these Terms do not choose a governing law. The law and the consumer protections of the country you use Lumina from apply to you. Once Lumina is incorporated this section will name the governing jurisdiction, and we will give notice before that change takes effect.
17. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these Terms as the product changes. The effective date at the top of this page always tells you which version is current, and we will give notice of a material change. Continuing to use Lumina after a change takes effect means you accept the revised Terms.
18. Reporting a Security Issue
If you believe you have found a vulnerability, tell us at security@mylumina.tech before disclosing it anywhere else. We will look into it and get back to you. Please do not access, alter, or download another student’s data while investigating.
19. Contact
Questions about these Terms go to legal@mylumina.tech. For anything else — your account, a listing that looks wrong, a deadline we have missed — write to support@mylumina.tech. Thank you for using Lumina.
